View Full Version : rear tire size NKNVNUNL 06-22-2003, 07:52 PM what size rear tires are you guys running? RaptorRacing 06-22-2003, 08:17 PM Was running 225/60/14's on the stock beauties, now 245/40/17's. Muchbzy 06-23-2003, 12:37 AM 225-50/16 all around. 3000cc MK2 06-23-2003, 12:47 AM 245/60R14 is the largest you can stuff on the stock 14X7 supra rims without the problem of proper contact patch... if you have seen my car the VMP last Battle of the Imports.... I am running a Indy Profile S/S G60-14 which is a 255/60-14 tire... it is made by Mickey Thompsons... and it is a Street/Strip tire that is DOT approved... it is a pretty soft tire specially ones you burn it off before running the track... pretty sticky once hot and it has the same compound as the Mickey Thompson slick tires.... but for daily driving... I wouldn't recommend this tire for the wear sucks due to soft of a tire... note... 255/60-14 is a bit too large for the 14X7 supra rims and I have to run 20 psi on it to make a better contact patch and greater use on the track rsdeo 06-23-2003, 01:01 AM I ran 225/60-14 on the stock rims. Once ran 245/45-16 on 16s and now run 245/40-17 on 17s. When I get my 18s finished I will try running 265/35-18. I wonder if bigger would fit? Nothing bigger than 265 or 285.... dohc82 06-23-2003, 01:42 AM 245/60s on the stock rim...no problems except speedimg through corners more often:lol: zank 06-23-2003, 02:07 AM 245/60s on the stock rim...no problems except speedimg through corners more often:lol: what is the make of tire you got on them? the only ones I could find were BF Goodrich Radial T/A, are there any other choices at around the same price? <------Hijacking this thread  dohc82 06-23-2003, 04:30 AM I got mine from Walmart  The price was right. About 70 Can. each I cant for the life of me remember the make. CJSREDPRA 06-23-2003, 06:18 AM P-Type Wheels: 225/60/14 Yokohama A509's (FINALLY took off the old A509's & put 2 of the new/used ones on 2 of my wheels. Need to take the other 2 wheels in for refinishing). Compomotive CXN's 245/45/16 Yokohama AVS Intermediate's (my summer wheels). The Silver Slug MKI is running 195/70/14 BFG Radial TA Whiteletters on the stock MKI aluminum wheels. I run the same size tires on all 4 wheels, not just the back 2. NKNVNUNL 06-24-2003, 08:53 PM Thanks for all the replies, guys. I am primarily interested in looks. It would be great to get the same BULGE look in the rear as on the fronts. supramad77 07-08-2003, 04:51 PM I have 265/35/17 for the rear and 235/40/17 for the front for when my Introforged wheels arrive. I don't think you could get much wider than this in. I looked at 285/35 and they looked way to big to fit. Regards Pat kicknsupra 07-17-2003, 08:07 AM i am running kelly springfeeds 235 14 60 that are not but held up better then the komos and copper corbers they are a good cheap tire if you are hard on tires the back ones grip good at take off i have to rota mine  RWDCelicadude 07-20-2003, 03:03 AM For those of you running 245/45/16s on the front what offset and width wheels are you running. That's the size I've been looking at but don't want any rubbing so I need to make sure I get the right offset. Any help is appreciated. RWDCelicadude 07-25-2003, 06:00 PM Offsets? anyone? Supra GTR 07-25-2003, 06:33 PM Darin: You can run 16x8 with 0mm to +10mm offsets up front For the rear 0mm to -10mm is ok visually. +10 to -10 is doable without rubbing. RWDCelicadude 07-25-2003, 07:16 PM Thanks a bunch, now all I have to do is find the money to get the wheels. :? Kevin Kisseberth 08-23-2003, 08:57 AM how does 245s fit on front and back on stock car or should I just go with 235s thanks NiGHTS 09-03-2003, 10:21 AM I have BFGoodrich T/A's 265/50/14 on the rear and 245/50/14 on the front on my stock 14" Rims - both sizes fit well. They have the name "BFGoodrich" in white writing on the side of the tyre. Very chunky tyres, look mean, very fat, but don't handle so good on wet roads...definitely not for the faint of heart come winter time! JZA-61 09-05-2003, 04:00 AM Hey Nights, Where and how much were the 265s? That's some serious rubber for stock wheels? cheers, Justin PS: Have you joined the WA Mk2 mailing list yet? NiGHTS 09-06-2003, 08:18 AM Hiya Justin! Great to see a fellow Perthie on here...suddenly I feel less alone. :) Unfortunately I don't know where the tyres were bought or even how much they cost...they came with the car when I bought it. :( I'm not even sure if you can still buy them and I suspect they wouldn't be cheap given the size and all...I haven't seen them around. They are very serious rubber for the stock rims. It's amazing though, they fit perfectly even though they look chunky. The back of the car is raised a bit from the size of the rear tyres...looks cool though...lol. Where is the W.A MK2 Mailing list located? I will join up... 8) JZA-61 09-08-2003, 12:28 AM To join WA list, just Email: M2K_WA-subscribe@yahoogroups.com And don't forget to introduce yerself! NiGHTS 09-09-2003, 09:01 PM Coolness, thanx JZA-61. :) What does this mailing list do and how many members are on it by the way? bobtheartist 09-22-2003, 12:13 PM Yokohama avid 235/60/r14 Good grip and wear, but i think that the extra width is making cornering a little less crisp. I've been using them over a year, now; and i noticed that my speedo is running about 4-5mi. over the actual speed. Would it be the tires? (even though they are the same height) Is it possible to adjust the speedo? CJSREDPRA 09-22-2003, 04:18 PM Yes, it would be the tires. The 235 size will give you a slightly different reading than the correct 225 size. And which Avid's did you buy???? Yokohama has several different model's of the Avid's. The Avid ST is the only model that Yokohama currently has in the 225/60/14. Am pretty sure that it's available in the 235/60/14's. Nope, the speedo is not adjustable. You can swap out your speedometer gear, BUT this is only if you are making a big change in your rear differential ratio. If it's something small, like a tire size change, then there is nothing you can do about this, other than to stay w/ the correct 225/60/14 tire size. And this size is still available if you look around carefully. shiva 09-24-2003, 11:25 PM Anyone know how 245/50/16s would fit on a mk2? A bit big, I know, but it's easy to find cheap tire deals from the f-body crew. Shiva WadeT 09-26-2003, 01:18 AM I have BFG T/As - 245/50s on the stock rims. Don't waste your $$ on 60 series ballons when 50 series can be had for about the same price. |
