View Full Version : Eagle Alloys -30mm
Chris 07-09-2005, 06:37 AM Hey guys,
I've been lurking here for a while while doing bodywork on my 85 project car. My car had aftermarket wheels installed when I bought it, which I believe to be 15x8 Eagle alloys with -30mm offset. Way too much neg. offset, especially in the front. I'm close to getting this car on the road, and i'm worried about the tire striking the front flare. Also, the tires are 195/50/15, which seem dangerously narrow and skew my speedo readout. Is there any temporary fix to make sure my tires don't hit the flares? Some way to limit the suspension? I'm a student on a limited budget so it will be a while before I could even get a set of stock wheels. Sorry if this has been addressed already but all I've found seems to concern P/L type differences. My car is a P type, by the way.
Thanks,
Chris
BillyM 07-09-2005, 11:14 AM I'd bet there is someone local who has a set of stockers that they wouldn't mind loaning you or selling on credit. Whatever you do, DONT bust one of those flares. Come on Bay-Area guys, someone jump in here and show this guy why we have the helpful reputation we do.

turbogoo1 07-09-2005, 11:40 AM if shipping wasnt so much id send him my stock rims for free, trade for the eagles. but unsure on the price.
supramad77 07-09-2005, 04:56 PM Have you got any pictures of you ride. I kinda curious to see what -30 offset looks like on the rear.
By the way is your car L type. If it is I am not suprised they stick out a bunch.
Chris 07-09-2005, 05:25 PM I posted some older pics of my car Here (http://photos.yahoo.com/suprapic5) .
Since I took these, i've finished all of the flares like the rear one and have painted the car black. I'll try to get some new pics up soon. Yes, I believe my car is a P type, with bolt-on fiberglass flares. The front ones were already damaged when I started, I reinforced them with fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin along the insides of the flares. Now that I've done all of this work I really don't want to break them. Where is the best place to find stock wheels? I have one, which was a spare, and I'd much rather have 225's than 195's. Even the civic guys over here have wider tires than me.
Thanks for the fast responses!
Chris
joefoe 07-09-2005, 06:43 PM Not to offend you but that offset looks SICK on our cars! It's too bad because a 15" wheel is gets you a way better tire then what you can get for our stock wheels. The body work looks really good and you picked the right colour!
Chris 07-09-2005, 06:56 PM No offense taken, I'm more concerned about the fronts, which might take off my flares. I've heard of the same wheel in a lesser offset, in 15x7, which might work for a staggered placement, but i've got too much to fix on this car other than just wheels! It needs work to the drivetrain, interior, suspension, basically all around. This one is a project car alright.
Superium 07-09-2005, 11:20 PM Those rims would be sweet if the offset was right and atleast 16x8. You gotta love that deep ass lip.

15X7 With a 0 Offset is exactly what you need on your car.

mk2_suprafan 07-10-2005, 04:59 AM if you give me some time i have spare wheels without tires, dont know how fast youre looking to get it on the road, id need at least a month to finish up these other stockers i have to put on my car.
supramad77 07-10-2005, 06:34 AM They look fat in the rear.
How come you got such a large gap between the wheel and you arch. Is there something wrong with your suspension.
redma61 07-10-2005, 03:10 PM i live in corona its by riverside, orange county and looking for wheels about that size.would you want to trade for stock wheels with 225/60s or 185/60s.but just a pair.
Chris 07-10-2005, 04:22 PM Hi,
The large gap between the tire and the flare is because the wheels are only one inch oversize, while the tires are 195/50. The low aspect ratio and narrow treadwidth combine to a sidewall less than four inches high, which is then stretched onto a 8" rim. This tire/ wheel combo is about 2+ inches smaller than stock, causing the large gap. I've also read that these wheels weigh 26lbs? I would believe it after taking one off. They're listed as truck wheels! there's an identical set in 5 lug around our shop with 36" tires.

supramad77 07-10-2005, 05:38 PM Now I understand. Pity you hook up some 245/45/15 on there to fill up the gap but I suppose you end up looking even wider.
