Dave
Speed Racer 07-10-2005, 02:20 AM Looks killer man...nice big fat lip on the back. Kick ass!
rsdeo 07-10-2005, 03:03 AM Looks great. I guess with the 17x9.5 -6 offset in the rear you are getting rubbing with that comment to get +0 offset. Though that is the same outer spacing I'm running on my 17x9.0 wheels, 5.5". Is the tyre too far out and is rubbing?
I may have to get a set......... The price is right.
Daves2JZGTE 07-10-2005, 03:12 AM O i fixed that problem!!!!! A grinder and a floor jack and now i have no rubbing. LOL
:woohoo:

hahah.. that's fkn hilarious..
dogstar 07-10-2005, 04:24 AM the wheels look great :)
i see youve got the fuzion... HRi or ZRi?
and how do you like them so far?
supramad77 07-10-2005, 06:37 AM There baadass. Gota love fat lips and big rims.
oldschool85 07-10-2005, 11:12 AM hey dave. is that a custom ordeal or does centerline now stock that size and offset for our car?
charlie
BillyM 07-10-2005, 11:28 AM Centerlines disapproval of anything more than 8" wide is a result of their worry that the 4-lug setup wont be able to handle the stresses of a 9.5" wide wheel/tire. Honestly, on a +40-50mm offset, this would be getting scary, but with our ~0 offset, effects are almost halved on rim width changes. Dave told me that he called in and they let the order go straight through.

they are the ZRi and i duno if i like them yet. I need more driving time but they are suprisingly quiet.
The only way to get this rim is to Call centerline they will not offer it online.
Dave
williamb82 07-10-2005, 04:44 PM looks like i need to start saving money for 17's.
skeen550 07-10-2005, 04:51 PM That looks sweet! I love it.
I know what I am getting, but in the ventura style.
Scott
Malloy 07-10-2005, 05:22 PM Badass man! That lip is insane. How big is the rear lip?
BTW, I LOVE that last pic ;)
Daves2JZGTE 07-10-2005, 05:28 PM 4" lip

supramad77 07-10-2005, 05:33 PM Hey Dave, any reason why you went with 275/40/17 and 245/45/17. Seems you would have had less trouble in the back if you went 275/35/17. It would also give you a better speedo reading. I have 265/35/17 out back and have got some 245/35/17 to go on the front soon as I plan on lowering my car in the future.
I am also waiting for some 30mm adaptors to push out my rear wheels some more as I was never really happy with buying 8" wheels.
I think if i would have got the 10" rims from Iforged they would have looked similar to yours as they had a -5 offset on them.
I have my grinder ready for the wheel arches just in case.
williamb82 07-10-2005, 05:35 PM oh yeah, how close is the tire to the rear shock?
Daves2JZGTE 07-10-2005, 05:42 PM 275 35 17 is hard to get in the USA duno Y but it is! I have a 16 up front. I didnt wont a 17 up front CUZ i didnt wont a real low profial tire. I have bent a set of 17ns befor do to daly driving. So 16 in front and 17 out back gives me enuf tire that i dont hold by breth @ every bump. + Billet wheels bend ezer then other types of rims. I just love the look of 16 and 17 on a 80s car
Dave
:oh yeah, how close is the tire to the rear shock?:
bit over 2"
supramad77 07-10-2005, 05:47 PM I was the same when I first had my fitted but I have got used to it. I have scratched mine a couple of times but it is easy to repair with some wet and dry paper and polish.
I just love the look of a really skiny side wall, and the cornering is fantastic compared with the stock rims.
williamb82 07-10-2005, 06:20 PM ok, so with a 17x9.5 rim and 275 tire, there is 2in clearance to the rear shock? wow. looks like we could go even wider out back then. looks like toyota planned on someone putting alot of meat back there.
Dangerous Ken 07-10-2005, 08:03 PM I looked into the 'widest' available street tires and found the widest tires at 24.9 and 25 inches overall diameter were only available in 18".
285/30/18 for 9-11" rims
295/30/18 for 10.5-11.5" rims
275's in 17 are much more reasonable in price for just a 1/2" narrower.
The 285/295 rubber is over $275 a tire for example.
Ken
nice to see you posted up pics. I got to see these wheels in perons a few days ago, and boy oh boy do they look freaking SWEET :D
oldschool85 07-10-2005, 10:30 PM looks like i will be calling centerline very soon for some 9.5" out back. thanks
charlie
WadeT 07-11-2005, 02:20 AM Damn, those are sweet. Perfect setup in back to eliminate that tucked-in look for the rears. :hail:
TRD 83 SupraDrifter 07-11-2005, 03:34 AM So hold on..... You have 17s in the rear and 16s in the front?
BillyM 07-11-2005, 10:47 AM So hold on.....
You have 17s in the rear and 16s in the front?
Argh, dave you've commited a cardinal "drifter-sin".
Alex, I know its confusing, but yes, dave wants the back tires to "grip".
How can I say it... Dave, spin, bad bad, much power, mmmgood grippy yay.
--BillyM
MikeD 07-11-2005, 01:52 PM Nice rims Dave! It's about time to have extra meat (grip) for 400 rwhp.
I forgot to ask. How much extra does the 17's weigh verus the other 16's? Have you weighed the wheel/tire combo?
Daves2JZGTE 07-11-2005, 02:08 PM YES 16 in front 17 out back.
HUMMMMM i didnt think to weigh the new setup. I will have to do that. If i remeber the front was like 42lbs with tire. I will have to look to see i have it somwayer BUT anyway i will have to way the new settup.
Dave
front rim was 18lbs with last tire 43lbs
ksourounis 07-11-2005, 02:09 PM what springs are you running in the rear?
i would like to run a 265/35/17 with as low an offset as possible, but my car is a bit lower in the rear than yours.
when you were rubbing, what where you rubbing on, flare or actual fender on the body?
Daves2JZGTE 07-11-2005, 02:17 PM I was rubbing on the flare and fender and im on ST springs with a 1" spacer @ the top.
Dave
ksourounis 07-11-2005, 03:14 PM i have st springs with top and bottem spacers removed.
i put some clear hose around the top and bottem of the springs to act as isolators.
with this new offset you have, can you do a launch like you have in your sig and not get rubbing?
if so i might try something like that
Daves2JZGTE 07-11-2005, 06:03 PM when i cut the fenders to fit i took out the springs and shocks. Then i used a floor jack to lift the wheel (on arm) up as hi as is would go. I then terned the wheel by hand to see what was rubbing. Lowerd the wheel grind then all over agean. I have bump stops (factory) so if my bump stops blow out i mite have a probelm.
AS i said befor if your going to get 17X9.5 go with a O offset or even a +6 not -6 like i did.
Dave
TRD 83 SupraDrifter 07-11-2005, 06:07 PM Billy lay the fuck off me man I still dont know wtf your issue is with me. If you have forgotten Im going to be doing Road Corse in OCTOBER!!!!
I know what the diffrence in GRIP and DRIFT is!!!
In any case not my choce in wheel size but looks good none the less.
ksourounis 07-11-2005, 06:08 PM cool, thanks for the info.
i currently have 255/40/17, but have found some 265/35/17. I cant find 275 in the US.
Anyway, I love hou well your wheel whell is filled out with that offset. I am trying to figure out what thickness wheel adapter to get for the ROH wheels and you have helped me a great deal.
williamb82 07-11-2005, 06:10 PM Im going to be doing Road Corse in OCTOBER!!!!
:ugly_08:
wont that be a site.
Daves2JZGTE 07-11-2005, 06:36 PM you have found a 265/35/17 wow really? 275/40/17 is made by just about every tire maker that i have looked @ but do what you wont . :good:
Dave
KesekiSupra 07-11-2005, 10:12 PM no mean to offend in any way, but i dont get it. tire choices in 16 size werent enough, rather, performancey enough? (lol my new word) i dont see the reason to jump from 16 to 17 thats y. cuz doesnt seem there'd be rubbing at 16 would there? again, no offence, not too educated in the tire realm
williamb82 07-11-2005, 10:32 PM they dont make the 16 in 9.5in widths. need wider tires, have to go 15's or 17+ 15's dont even have that good of a selection in tires unless you get drag radials
airwhirlybird 07-12-2005, 02:53 AM nice set up.
my are at teh powder coaters, hope to have them back asap.
275/40 huh, i was told to run 245/40's. big difference? and run 225/45 for the 8inch fronts.
fusion's, let me know how that works out, if they are fairly sticky, the price is defentially worth it.
any way taht you can post pics about where you were rubbing? what springs are you riding on. i have ST springs, but hope to get them off asap. i will run stock springs if i have to. Caution: bitch fit . . . 935 MOTORSPORTS, CAN I PLEASE HAVE MY SPRINGS AND COILOVERS! IT HAS BEEN FOUR MONTHS!
well, nice set up none the less.
Supra GTR 07-12-2005, 10:11 AM nice set up.

Out of curiosity - who tol dyou to run 225/45s on a 8" wide wheel? and 245/40 on a > 9"wide wheel?
Ideally the 245/40 should be on the 8"and 255 - 275 on the 9"
Very nice setup Dave! Love the lip on the rear wheel! :woot:

im sure there is less sidewall flex in a 17 than a 16. mostly its for looks.
its ok to make your car look good, i dont think 17's are over the top or anything.
KesekiSupra 07-12-2005, 08:45 PM so...to get a zero offset. ud need a 5.5" backspacing? talking about 9.5 inch rims of course and on a 9 inch rim, ud need 5" to get 0 offset correct?
rsdeo 07-12-2005, 09:45 PM so...to get a zero offset. ud need a 5.5" backspacing? talking about 9.5 inch rims of course and on a 9 inch rim, ud need 5" to get 0 offset correct?
Almost
This is for a +0 offset wheel.
9.0" rim is 5.0" back spacing.
9.5" rim is 5.25" back spacing.
Think of it this way.
((rim width)"+1")/2=(back spacing)"
lil'devil 07-13-2005, 03:18 AM They look a little like the ol 280 zx rims. just nicer.
Daves2JZGTE 07-13-2005, 12:34 PM Yesterday i went around a corner and slamed on the gas to throw out the rear end. TO my suprise the dam thing dug like hell and shot me threw the corner Fing fast with no slide. Next time i will have to try harder to throw the back end out.
:woohoo:
so this is what traction is like. LOL
Dave
Dangerous Ken 07-13-2005, 01:11 PM Sounds like Dave's trying to Drift with 9.5" wide rears... :runaway:

85_6mge 07-13-2005, 04:49 PM rsdeo, you da man!!
airwhirlybird 07-13-2005, 06:15 PM all tire shops have told me 225/45 and 245/40 (but those guys are idiots, i know). my buddy is running 225/45/17 on his 05 STi and they are perfect. maybe with the smaller rear tires i won't have rubbing problems. i would change, but they already ordered my tires for me. its all gravy, i will probally roast these in a couple of months anyways. will post pics when the rims come back from the powder coater
white_mk_2 07-17-2005, 04:09 PM I cant find 275 in the US.
Anyway, I love hou well your wheel whell is filled out with that offset. I am trying to figure out what thickness wheel adapter to get for the ROH wheels.
No need for spacers on the (GB) ROH Snypers, I run 275/40s, no problem. BTW 275/40R17 is very common, check tirerack etc...
Dave, the wheels look sweet! That offset looks a lot better than the 17mm of the ROHs. Your car is the best MK2 :D I'm sooooo jealous.
Daves2JZGTE 07-17-2005, 05:34 PM Id really like to thank everyone for the coments. This car had bean in the works for over 5 years now. Im really happy that the car is just as i saw it in my mined.

bbaacchhyy 07-18-2005, 09:27 PM Hi Dave,
I like the mags for sure, but have been wondering why the 16 fronts and 17 rears ? Was it purely for the offset/availability ?
I certainly like the look of my wheels, and after some searching, unless I find a second set of rims with the right outers, I am stuck with 17x8" all round.
Such a drama !!!!
Cheers
