Nukes25 07-30-2005, 02:04 PM dont know if they'll have them around you, but nexen N2000's, they're a really good tire, just have a bit shorter life expectancy
MooSeviSion1 07-30-2005, 03:00 PM 235/60/r14 is what im lookin for
CJSREDPRA 07-30-2005, 03:24 PM You're not going to find much in a high performance tire. Sizes are easily available, but whatever is currently out there, mostly has at least a 350AB - 420AB treadwear rating,,, In other words, the rubber tends to be of the hard composition/pencil erasure variety.
If you're looking for something "sticky" (which is what I would call a performance tire), like something in the neighborhood of around a 160AA treadwear rating.... Those tire models in this size are long gone years ago. Nearest thing to a performance tire that would be available in this size, are mostly race tires that are practically racing slicks & are not practical at all for street use.
Sticky performance tires for the street are still available. You just have to be willing to upgrade to a 16" or 17" wheel. Which at the moment sounds like you don't want to do.
This is the reality of the tire world at the moment. There are not many choices left in 14's. What used to be easily available for our cars 15 - 18 years ago, has long been discontinued.
For the 14-inch tire, Radial T/A's are the best combination of looks and performance for the price - there's just something about those white letters. They're the only tire I've ever seen that looks good with them turned out. If you have the dough, get the Michelin Pilot HX's...but they are up around $100 and the T/A's are about $65 or so.
Eric
---I should add - this is all heavily based on my opinion.
jukka 07-30-2005, 04:25 PM I just replaced my radial T/A's with the Michellin Pilots and the Pilots are just so much better than the T/A's - well worth the extra $$. I can now drive very fast into hairpin turns and feel totally in control which was never the case with the T/A's. Unfortunately, the widest Pilots I was able to find were 225's.
lechner 07-31-2005, 10:43 AM 235/60/r14 is what im lookin forIn that size I have found no H speed rated high performance tires. Your choices in T & S speed rated Performance All Seasons are Cooper Cobra GT [(T)440AB], Dunlop GT Qualifier T [(T)440AB], BFG Radial T/A [(S)400AB], and Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 [(S)500AB]. The Cooper is the cheapest ($58 at tiresavings.com), but the Firestone is the most recommended according to customer surveys ($62 at Tirerack.com). See the comparison here (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare2.jsp?shipquote=N&compare=true&partNumber=&make=&model=&clarifier=&price=&width=235%2F&ratio=60&diameter=14&sortCode=&speedRating=&qty=&stockMessage=&type=T&URL=&newCompare=true&prevprice=&loadRating=&promoShortText=&promoUrl=&promoLongText=&sidewall=&sidewallShown=&frontTire=&frontLeftTire=&rearTire=&rearLeftTire=&wantRHP=&RHPprice=&sumRating=&hasSpec=&hasWarranty=&hasComments=&hasTests=&hasSurveys=&perf=&pre=&specCode=&autoMake=&autoModel=&autoYear=&autoModClar=&RunFlat=All&goWhere=%252Ftires%252FCompare1.jsp&AddToUser=true&startIndex=0&sortValue=1&compareList=0&qty_36SR4RADTARWL2_=4&compareList=1&qty_36TR4GTQRWL_=4&compareList=2&qty_36SR4FHI500RWL_=4)
MooSeviSion1 07-31-2005, 12:16 PM thanks alot for the help. im ordering the indy 500 im just goin to flip the white lettering around when i mount them..
MooSeviSion1 07-31-2005, 01:22 PM see what had happened was.. this guy i work with he tends to clean out his work van and just sweep all the screws nails staples whatever else pops tires into the street where everybody drives on.. he has been warned several time about this.. ppl get flat tires all the time but he keeps on doing it... i have 4 plugs in my right rear tire and 2 on the left rear.. so after i get these new tires. im goin to have to put some screws and nails under his tires and see how he likes it.. what a prick
CJSREDPRA 08-01-2005, 12:00 AM Unless you like drifting allot, DON'T push those Firestone Indy 500's around the corners too hard!!! That 500AB treadwear rating..... PRETTY ROCK HARD!!! They'll last for a long time, but don't expect tremendous grip going around corners. Do plan to expect lots of tire squeal.
CJSREDPRA 08-01-2005, 12:04 AM but the Firestone is the most recommended according to customer surveys ($62 at Tirerack.com).
Did those survey's say what they liked about them??? At a 500AB treadwear rating, these tires should last a very long time (unless you really beat the crap out of your tires). Just don't expect much for cornering.
lechner 08-01-2005, 02:41 AM According to the survey, the Firestones corner better than the other Performance all-seasons (although none of these tires touch the High Performance All Seasons (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=HPAS), which are no longer available in our sizes). New technology has revolutionized tires and the old compromises are no longer a given. Just cause a tire lasts longer no longer automatically means it is not as sticky.
Try this link for survey results of Performance All-Seasons (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=PAS)
Greg G 08-03-2005, 11:03 AM 500 treadwear??? WTF?

But they sure make good tires for us commuters :)
BillyM 08-04-2005, 01:32 AM But they sure make good tires for us queers :)
Agreed fully....
I'd find someone with a new-ish set of Falken Zeix and kill them, and take their tires if I were you. Otherwise, I'd look for some new wheels if you want any form of performance tire. 15x7's are VERY easy to come by.

lechner 08-05-2005, 02:16 AM I'd find someone with a new-ish set of Falken Zeix and kill them, and take their tires if I were you. That's probably what it would take. I have a line on 1(One) brand new Falcon Ziex 225/60/14, which just frustrates me further because 1 does me no good.
SlickDizzy 08-08-2005, 09:08 PM 500 treadwear??? WTF?
Yeah, no shit. And I thought 320AA Hankooks were hard.
83PASUPRA 08-17-2005, 02:42 PM What about these tires?
Yokohama Avid S/T 225/60TR14 Price: $51 each

They're okay. 340AA treadwear. Some peeps here have them. Some are not that crazy about them, because they are mainly a small truck tire (thus the "S/T").
This tire has been discussed many times already, you DID use the search button 1st??? And looked in the FAQ over at celicasupra.com?? (not the FAQ here on the forums).
84supra74vette 08-17-2005, 10:15 PM i just want to put it out there, kelly charger tires arent very good. i cant take a corner to save my life; i always fishtail
1suprafan 08-18-2005, 11:14 AM If you are going to stay with the 14" tires just suck it up and go buy the michelins you won't regret it.
BillyM 08-18-2005, 11:48 AM I bet you will when the creditcard bill comes in.
--BillyM (who once paid $700 for a running 110k mile 83' with a brand new set of pilots)
1suprafan 08-18-2005, 02:47 PM Well from what I've seen you either get cheap or you get good. I haven't really found a good combination of both.
BillyM 08-18-2005, 03:01 PM Now days, yes, I'm sad to say its true.
I cry every time I look at my Falkens. ...knowing they are the last I will ever own.
........
Except for that spare set I bought last year! Booyah!
--billyM
CJSREDPRA 08-18-2005, 10:36 PM Cheap and good??? Yep, them days are long gone.... I got to experience it back in 98 (can't remember now how much I paid for my new set of Yokohama A509's, it was worth it, it think it was almost $400. The 2nd best deal was the $200 that I paid Nix99 for a set of used A509's that I'm still using on the stock wheels. Love those sticky 160AA tires).
ohh how I would love to have a new set of Falkens right now
lechner 08-21-2005, 01:24 AM Except for that spare set I bought last year! Booyah! Hey Billy, :new_mofug
MooSeviSion1 08-21-2005, 02:12 PM i still have the original spare tire from 86'
BillyM 08-21-2005, 02:22 PM I bet that rubber is nice and soft. *ew, pencil erasre tires*
Lechner, every man can be swayed with money, its just a matter of how much money. I dont think you have the cahones to offer what it would take to get them off my hands. ...something to be said for the best tires made for the stock wheel in the last 3yrs, that you can no longer acquire.
*pets his falkens*

(I feel like I'm gloating my trophy wife around or something... its cool)
MooSeviSion1 08-21-2005, 02:58 PM when i bought my car off the orig. owner it had org. tires still on it
lil'devil 08-24-2005, 04:13 AM :D Get BFG's 245 50 14...or will they be too rice 4 ya
82MKIILtype 08-24-2005, 09:44 AM Well, I needed a full set in a hurry (for Toronto meet) ... and I went with 215/60/14 BF Radial T/A's. Main reason ... availability.
Before you guys rape me for the size ... it's for an L type on P type rims. Big rubbing issues with 225 and 235's that were on it.
Compared to what I used to have, I like them. Tight on ramps at 110 km/h are no problem now. Seem to be a great rain tire too. Wicked monsoon on way to TO meet and even with 1" of water on the 401 hwy, still seemed in control at reasonable speeds.
I've never had a "sticky" tire on my soup ... so I probably don't know what I'm missing, and I'm not calling BF's a super sporty tire. But for a daily driver tire with good wet/dry grip, and the cool raised white leters... I like them. I also expect to get a few years out of them too.
245/50/14's ....mmmmmmmmmmm just let me trim my rear fenders............
Just one more opinion. :dead hors
Kevin Kisseberth 08-24-2005, 10:12 PM Bottom line is ther a set or falkin like tires out there for around $200? Sorry to jump the thread but no sense starting another. Tirerack has yokohoma avid s/t but they are standard truck tires and BFgoodrich radial t/a is the only real one available there.
Kevin Kisseberth 09-06-2005, 10:37 PM Pilots are gone also
