View Full Version : Brutally stupid question about tires

I got a new set of tires yesterday. They have blue paint sprayed over the white sidewall writing. It's definately starting to crack a little but isn't showing any signs of coming off.

What do I use to remove this stuff? Or do I just patiently wait for it to fall off? Thanks

I think it supposed to come off with water, but that's barely ever the case. Get some multi-purpose cleaner and a scrub brush and that should take it off.

some 409 or something should take care of it, my parents have a set on our suburban that still have the blue stuff on them, and its been 10000 miles (there on the inside sidewall, so no harm no foul). or you can take it back to where you got them put on, they should take care of it free of charge.

what did you get?

Bleach is what you need. Make a rag damp with some bleach and carefully take the blue whitewall protection off. Remember to wear gloves.

wow, bleach? seriously, i just use the same lube that u use to luve the bead on it, water and scrubbing is all u need, just a rag and some soapy water. scrub hard enough and the white comes off and leaves black. lol. soap water and a rag is all u need, and 30 seconds of patiences on each tire. not that hard to come off

Dude screw all that... get a plastic bristle scrub brush and some good old fashoned hot/warm water with some dishwashing liquid in it. I used to work in a tire shop... works everytime

The blue stuff is just a protectant film on top of the white letters/whitewall band. Supposed to protect it when the tires are still new & have not been mounted yet. If the lettering was on the outside, then whoever it was that mounted the tires, was supposed to clean the blue stuff off. Otherwise, do what 2slow4u recommends. Scrub brush, warm water & dishsoap will take this stuff off. For regular maintenance, see turbogoo1's posting.. Westley's Bleach White & a scrub brush is what I also use on white letters & whitewall tires. Spray on, let sit for 1 minute, scrub & hose off.

Hot water, scrub brush, and multi-purpose cleaner. And a whole lot of elbow grease.

It sucks, had to do it many a times.

I swear by Westley's Bleche Wite for getting white letters on tires bright again. Good Stuff.
(Note for the record that I spelled the name correctly.)

PS The white letters are on my Grand Cherokee's Goodyear Wranglers, not on my Supra.
