View Full Version : 17X10; 3 questions...
dmlsupra 03-21-2007, 05:42 PM 1- Does it fit, I'm pretty sure it does with the search I just did, but I couldn't find any mk2 with that wheel size.
2- I guess 275 or 285 will fit, right?
3- Offset?
Thanks
CJSREDPRA 03-21-2007, 05:44 PM Bruno,
Yes, it does fit. HAVE to be REALLY CAREFUL with the offset, not a whole lot of room there.
See Dave Shepard's rear Centerline wheel setup (Dave7MGTE).
SilverMk2 03-21-2007, 05:49 PM You probably could with around a +7 or 8 wheel. The offset would have to be perfect though and you can't have a lot of camber. The 17x9+20 on my wheels is about as far inboard as you can go. If you are willing to modify the outer lip I see no reason you'd couldn't run 285s or 295s except the height starts getting out of control.
dmlsupra 03-21-2007, 05:53 PM only for the rear btw.
Daves2JZGTE 03-21-2007, 07:09 PM ok if you go 0 offset you will be just like me..... HAVE TO SHAVE THE FLARE. +6 offset would be about as far out as you can go with out any shaving maybe. Then we get into how big a tire do you wont to go with. With my 275/40/17 @ -6 on a 9.5 I have 2" of space on the backside. If you had a 10" @ 0 based on my tire... you would have 1.5" room in back but have to shave the flare. @ +6 would be 1.25" @ +12 would be 1" or less in the back hears a pic to show what I mean buy in the back and a pick of my flare after shaving.

Supra GTR 03-21-2007, 07:10 PM For the most part I agree with SilverMk2..and I've generally recommended 17x9 +0 and others have gone with a 17x9.5 +0. I don't see why 17x10 +10wouldn't fit.
I'd stick with a 275/40R17 though. 285/40R17s will undoubtedly be way tall. It's doable.. and I suspect some rubbing issues especially on the flares.
Without going to race tires finding a 295/35 will be an issue in 17s.
If you have the resources go for it. About 10 years ago, people were saying 17x9s wouldn't fit. :duh: Now most of the people ordering custom fit 17s are putting 9's and 9.5's on the back of their mk2s.
Good luck :good: and post pics when done!

SilverMk2 03-21-2007, 07:14 PM Dave, if you compress the suspension you'll find that the bulge around the spring is the closest point to interference. I have about 3 mm of clearance there, but I can stick my fist between the tire and the suspension arm.
Daves2JZGTE 03-21-2007, 07:20 PM hummm have to look @ that. I when i cycled my suspention for clearance i was conserned about the out side @ full squat. I actually rub do the the tire being to tall when i botom out the suspention on the road. Next set of tire will be 255 to drop the extra inch.
Anyway whats your rim tire setup now?
SilverMk2 03-21-2007, 07:23 PM http://forums.celicasupra.com/showpost.php?p=333560&postcount=24
I don't have any rubbing that I've found, no body modifications done other than the camber eccentrics.
Daves2JZGTE 03-21-2007, 07:27 PM ok then he can go +8 witch will poot him a littel over 1/4 inch in from my setup now.
dmlsupra 03-21-2007, 10:27 PM so 17X10, with +8 offset and 275/40, right?
btw, I'm asking for 17X10 because I found a compagny that could dot custom wheel at a fair price, but they only do 17X8 and 17X10, no 17X9....

walkerhiboost 03-21-2007, 10:40 PM I have the ROH synpers with 265/40s and have a nice amount of room. They actually look small on the car.
Daves2JZGTE 03-21-2007, 10:45 PM +8 275
witch rim?
I like velocity or shifter
williamb82 03-22-2007, 08:30 AM i was gonna go 17x10 and see if i could squeeze a 315/35/17 in there. with the 17x9 +20 and 275/40/17 silver mkii is running, i figured the 0 offset on the rim would give me plenty of tire clearance inside. andi figured id have to shave he flare like dave. though i also plan on custom rear springs for stock height and ~250lbs.then i was gonna do the celica arms and strut tubes up front and run a 17x8 0 offset and 255/40/17 up front assuming itll clear my coilovers on the inside.

I don't know yet, I was looking to get some Forgeline, but they are expensive, centerline was plan B, then I found that spending to much time on cs forum....
I like the stinger, boost, octane and the speedsteer, I'll have to think about it. I want five spoke, something simple.
But if there any other compagny that build some custom wheel, lmk.

CJSREDPRA 03-22-2007, 04:53 PM Bruno,
Does Compomotive fall within your budget??? Or are they a little $$$$$ ??
85soops 03-22-2007, 05:01 PM Bruno,
the better question is how much are the wheels from the manufacturer you are talking to us about? how much per wheel and where are they manufactured? any additional shipping costs?
thanks in advance,
Mike
Jose H. 3 03-22-2007, 05:38 PM yeah i wanna know how much the boze wheels go for... i thought last i saw they were a bit on the high end. they do make some beautiful wheels...

I didnt verified for the compomotive... website???
As far for the boze wheels, I think retail should be around 2000$ a set, but call their customer service.
Forgeline cost about 1000$/wheel

dmlsupra 03-28-2007, 10:45 AM If the forgeline ls had larger tire, I would take them, but 215 in the rear is not sufficient for me.
So I will order a set of speedster, but I'm not 100% sure yet. Hopefully with 17X10 and 275 in the rear, I wont have to cut anything....
