hi all, its been awhile since i've been on the board and i would like people input on something
I'm having a hard time deciding what size tires i want
i have 17x8+5 and 17x9+15
and as to what they are they shall remain a secret
i dont think anyone on this board has these wheels *wink*
i've been busy and my car is in the process of the turbo swap
i shall reveal the rims when i have everything done hopefully in 2 weeks time

i am shooting for approximately 300rwhp-350rwhp max so basically i narrowed it down to
225/45/17 255/40/17
235/45/17 265/40/17
245/45/17 275/40/17

i'm somewhat leaning towards the middle choice because of sidewall height??
at the moment i have 225/50/16 on my current wheels and with my suspension setup the ride is pretty harsh i'd say...but then maybe its the crappy roads we have in vancouver,bc

input appreciated. thanks.

Well I can say from experience (with my ROH Snypers) that 245/45 is a bit tall if only for the sake of fender clearance. Since our cars don't have ABS it isn't as important to run the same height/circumferance all around. So I would say to stick with the 275/40 in back with a 235/45 or 245/40 in front. I think 265/40 really limits your tire choices to what, like one or two? Though I guess if your happy with one of those two tires then it's OK :). I have 235/45s in the front now but have yet to drive the car this way so I can't comment on any differences. Just from looking at the difference between the 245/45 and 235/45 I can say that the 235 is just slightly stretched which is probably perfect on the front, the 245 had pretty much straight sidewalls, no bulge. Which is how the 275s on a 9" wheel are, basically the widest you can go before they start bulging out.

Do you have a tire brand and model in mind already? In a perfect world I'd say to find the perfect sizes then go from there but in the real world sometimes the best tires don't come in every possible size and you have to end up compromising a bit.

At any rate, probably almost anything you pick will be a really good tire and almost certainly lightyears beyond what was on previously. Can't wait to see pics when you're finished.

245/40R17 Front.
275/40R17 Rear.

And Joseph is right about the improved handling.

^and 275s in the rear just look all out bad ass compared to 255s.

....you can say that again!

I do 275/40 rear and 245/45 front with only minimal rubbing on the front driver's (due to stupid intercooler piping) and that's on a set of suspension tech's. Stock height car should have no probs. I WILL be going to a stiffer set soon (I've got the coilover kit readywith 350, 400, and 450lb springs), so I'm not worried.

I picked up a set of Falken GR-Beta's for under $400 from discount tire direct.

The Falken Azenis on white_mk2 rohs look incredible. I couldnt stop staring at them like 2 hot chicks making out.

245/40-17 F and 265/40-17 R is what I have on my ROHs.... I should have put the 275s on the rear...

Now the question is 235/45/17 or 245/40/17? Would it help my understeer?
I'm going to give Federals a try...

If you don't drive the car a lot I'd go with Kumho MXs. It seems like a really good tire for the price. And do the 245/40 in the front.
