Seriously are there only 2 companies that make a 225/60/14 tire, Sigma and BFGoodrich? When the heck did that happen? I mean I know it isn't a common tire size anymore, but um there are still some of us around that need tires still, lol.

If you look hard enough, you may find some Coopers, but I have heard that they may have also stopped making them.

Dayton still makes 235/60/14s, I checked today for a friend. (They are Daytona SR)

Ya Cooper was my first choice. But like you said, no longer made. However, those Daytons don't sound too bad. But they look a little too beefy for my taste. Maybe in a 235/50/14. Looks like it is going to be Bf's. May just have to buy 2 sets. Because if they stop making those we are screwed. I think I will try to hunt down some Coopers first though.

no one other than BFgoodrich make 245s...I've been looking everywhere. Cooper makes 235/60/14 too.

235/50 doesn't exist. 245/50 were made by BFG and look SEXY, but are discontinued now as well.
I loved my Dayton 235s

I thought that was your post in the gts forum Tanya. I searched and it came up in google for the dayton tires.
And yes I did read it. I understand tire sizing and all that jazz. I just wanna know where the love is for us supra owners., waahhh.

The last I found out, too, was the only tire manufacturer for us was B.F. Goodrich. There's just not enough Celicas and Supras around for them to profit from making our size tires anymore. The only other cars that use that size are some late 70's/early 80's GM cars. B.F. Goodrich is usually the last company to make a tire in a specific size before it becomes obsolete, so we're technically on our last leg, er, tire.
You can be creative when searching for tires. A year and a half ago I was looking all over for tires and finding none (couldn't afford new either). Then I did a craigslist search for that size and found a few ads for people selling good condition, gently used tires. I ended up getting a whole set of 4 tires used for only 3 months with a couple hundred miles on them for $200. The guy had them on his muscle car and decided to get bigger tires, so 1 or 2 of them have bead damage from dismounting. They're still sitting in our garage, waiting for me to refinish some p-type rims to mount them on.
Another thing you can do is check around some tire dealers like Firestone or Good Year. I found an ad for 1 tire at Firestone for $50 (originally a $100 tire) brand new closeout on Craigslist. Went and asked about the tire, and the salesman said he had 2 others in that size as well, but all different brands. He gave us a smokin' deal for all 3 brand new tires ($130). It probably helped that my wife was with me, we had our 2 tone Supra parked right outside where he could see it, and that a friend of his used to have a Supra like it. ;) So get creative; who knows what you might find out there? :D

Hate to do it, but you may have to go a size smaller, 215. Seems like there are plenty of tires in that size.

Just looked on The Tire Rack and they have BFG's in 225/60/14.

that's what i had to do. when i bought the car it still had some old potenzas on it which were dry-rotted and looked unsafe so i had to find new ones. only thing i could find used at the time were some 215's on ebay for $25 a piece. they work just fine, and lower the car a bit heh.
i hate that there aren't any performance treads though because BF's suck for traction and are truck tires. i hate to give up the stock rims because i love them, but in the name of performance it has to be done. 16's going on as soon as it's warm out.

Don't get so obsessed with 225/60s try the looking for 215/60s which actually fit more like some of the older discontinued 225/60 tires. Many of the 225/60s are just too big and balloon like, not to mention way too wide 245s (on a 7" wheel). All tires of the same size are not actually the same size. Huge soft sidewalls are terrible performance wise.

I am restoring a car back as close to OEM as possible so I need the original size. I really didn't need a set. I just found out my front left has a separated side wall. Probably from sitting flat for to long if I had to guess. So I went to get one and was shocked there were none. But I found a member here with 2 of the same tire I have to sell me so I am all good. But I think we need to petition Cooper tires, lol. I want my Coopers back...

Those do look sexy. I have 2 Daytons on my Celica and I'm very happy with them plus they have been on there for 3 years now with about 18,000 miles on them and they still look new plus they were only $50 A tire:thumbsup:

A lot of muscle cars use these tire sizes on stock rims, even after market like Cragars (which are still popular), my dad is running old school 245s on his car in the back on a 14" cragar, 235-245 were very popular on 14" stock muscle car steelies too, I don't understand why no one keeps them, only BFG in the bigger 14" sizes

hmm, you make my life difficult, you.. know that? :p
Is that literally the tread that ripped off?
Tanya
03-13-2009, 12:30 AM
Yes. Tire blowout at 80mph. Tires are rated for 118mph IIRC, they were 15,000 miles old. It destroyed my fender flare, fender and door.

Blowout, or tread separation?
Tanya
03-13-2009, 02:29 AM
It felt like a damn blow out, but as you can see, the tread is completely separated. All I know is that it made me swerve across the highway and left nasty blackmarks for 1/4 mile down the road.

Is 225/60/14 for the stock rims?

Ah, always thought it was the inner fender laying on the tire!

Howdy,
I just recently put the Futura GLS 235/60/14's on my Celica. These are sold through Pep Boys and Futura is actually a division of the Cooper tire company. I had done a little bit of research and found mixed ( but independent reviews), the GLS seem to have rated above average on a 1-5 scale in most reviews. Currently Pep boys is running a buy 3 get one free promotion. I just called the store here in Georgia, they are currently running $66.99, mounted & balanced, per tire. I'm currently at work and can not post pics of mine, however I feel satisfied with them. They do not however carry 225/60/14.
Hope this helps....

Never had luck with the Grand Am Radial GTs, and that is exactly what these tires are (they are just rebrands). And for the price, you would have been much better off going with the Federal Formoza FD-1 in a 215/60-14 since they should be about the same width (Federal runs a little over what they claim it is), a little shorter (stiffer sidewall), and they are much better tires.
