ok well im plannin on getting the tecno toy tuning 4 to 5 bolt adaptors. The wheels of choice are the awesome TSW kyalamis 17x8. they make these only in 20mm offset and 40mm offset. I will be goin with teh 20mm offset but my question is since tecno toy tuning can only go as low as making the adaptors to a 25mm size, that leaves me with a -5mm offset in teh front. Will i have any rubbing issues if i get this setup?

Those wheels are slick.

Let's see, this might be correct. It usually works out.

Using the +20 wheel with 25mm adapter.

17X8" ET -5

Total width=wheel width +1"
Total width=8+1
Total width=9"

Front spacing=(Total width/2)-(ET/25.4)
Front spacing=(9/2)-(-5/25.4)
Front spacing=(4.5)-(-.197)
Front spacing=4.697"

Back spacing=(Total width/2)+(ET/25.4)
Back spacing=(9/2)+(-6/25.4)
Back spacing=(4.5)+(-.197)
Back spacing=4.303"

Front spacing seems a little too big, ie. rubbing for front wheel. Okay for the rear though.

Using the +40 wheel with 25mm adapter.

17X8" ET +15

Total width=wheel width +1"
Total width=8+1
Total width=9"

Front spacing=(Total width/2)-(ET/25.4)
Front spacing=(9/2)-(15/25.4)
Front spacing=(4.5)-(.591)
Front spacing=3.909"

Back spacing=(Total width/2)+(ET/25.4)
Back spacing=(9/2)+(15/25.4)
Back spacing=(4.5)+(.591)
Back spacing=5.091"

Good for front and rear wheel.

You could use the +20 on the rear and +40 on the front. Or use +40 all the way around.

Good luck.

ok are the lips on both of the wheels teh same? or would they differ more? if its not that big of a problem then im game. Also rsdeo could you fit 245/40/17 on a 17x7 inch rim. if so that gives me some other options on wheels as well.

I have no idea about the lip. I put 245/45-16 on an 16x7" in rim before and it was a tight fit. 245/40-17 on a 17x7" rim would probably be little tighter.

id go with the 17x8 42 up frunt and 17x8 20 in the back. I think that would look good with the spasers in each of corse

:imwithst:

245s on 16x8 0 offset wheels sticks out about 10mms too far, another 5 out would look really bad. Might clear your flare under compression, but your wheels won't look like they fit right. Do the +40s for the front, +20s for the rear. A 17x9 offset wheel is perfectly flush with the rear flare and clears well with a big tire on it.

ok well guys im goin with the 17x8 inch 40mm+ offset with 33mm offset all around. What do you guys think will look better? that anthracite color or the silver? Also would 255/40/17 fit fine with the 8 inch wheel and would it throw my speedo off?

Do you mean a 33mm adapter?

17X8" ET +7

Total width=wheel width +1"
Total width=8+1
Total width=9"

Front spacing=(Total width/2)-(ET/25.4)
Front spacing=(9/2)-(7/25.4)
Front spacing=(4.5)-(.276)
Front spacing=4.224"

Back spacing=(Total width/2)+(ET/25.4)
Back spacing=(9/2)+(7/25.4)
Back spacing=(4.5)+(.276)
Back spacing=4.776"

Wheel will probably fit fine without rubbing.

Speedometer should not be off by much with a 255/40-17 tyre, but 245/40-17 is almost perfect to the stock diameter.

Stock diameter with 225/60-14 is 24.6", you want 255/40-17 which is 25.0". 245/40-17 is 24.7".

So 25.0/24.6=1.016 meaning the car will actually be running faster than what the speedometer states by 1.6%. Just multiply your speedometer reading by 1.016 to get your true speed.

So the speedometer will read 30 and your true speed will be 30.48.

The speedometer will read 60 and your true speed will be 60.96.

The speedometer will read 100 and your true speed will be 101.6.

Umm Raj,

I think that your calcs are back to front. A wheel with a -ve offset will sit out further from the centreline of the car, rather than the other way around. i.e. the +40mm rims will sit in a further 20mm per side for a given width than the +20mm offset ?

If anything, the +40mm offset will rub whereas the +20mm probably wont.

The rims that I am using (admitidly I am using RA60 struts on the MA61 to get more neg camber and for brake clearance issues) are 16 x 8" with +25mm offset and they clear the strut tubes by about 15mm, and some nice 17 x 8" with +35mm offset will also clear, but be close.

PS The rims do look nice !!!!

You are correct about the way a wheel will sit with different offset wheels

I was calculating offsets with different positive offset wheels and different width adapters. Also showing equivalent offset wheels to those with the adapters and with the same offset and no adapter needed.

Please post pics of your car once the RA60 struts are mounted with the wheels. I also read that the RA60 front lower control arms are a few mm shorter than the MA61s. This may help with front camber once the car is lowered, if the control arms fit.

Hi Raj,

Will send some pics (not computer literate enough yet to set up a web page, but am aiming to) once it is on the ground.

I have used the RA60 strut legs, and retained the MA61 upper spring perch (spring diamter is different) and also retained the MA61 LCA.

Using the RA60 strut gives about 2 degrees more neg camber and helped significantly in getting the LCA to clear my disc upgrade.

With my 16 x 8" Simmons rims and +25mm offset, the tyres (225/50x16) sit juuuuuuust inside the wheel arch flare (by about 5mm or so)

Cheers

Here are pics if Michaels 16" Simmons wheels on his car. He is in the process of doing the 5 bolt swap with Z32 calipers, which you can read about at the following thread.
