I'm buying 4 new rims from wheel collision(because I'm too lazy to clean them my damm self).Anyway I was wondering what the guys who bought them use to clean their rims. I've used stuff that supposedly was safe on clear coated wheels only to find out that it wasn't and I don't want to screw them up-I'd like them to last a few years at least !

You always use soap and water. Never any chemicals. If you have to use chemicals to keep a new wheel clean.. then you're abusing it and should just hand them over to me

Seriously, though. Just use the same car shampoo that you use for the car body. Check the FAQ on wheels.

New wheels are nice..so treat them that way. A nice rag with mild soap ane water will get the break dust off every time...as long as you do it at least twice a week. If you run through mud or something bad make sure you give the wheels a spray from the hose when you get home..this will help maintain the nice shine.

And above all wax them with something like Mother's wheel wax often!
The more wax you have on the bare metal the better!! More protection from scrathces and road crap.

Ooo..... Make sure you let your brakes/wheels cool down before shooting them with cold water!

Just got one of the rims today and Wheel collison recommends soap and water :deal: so soap and water it is....its just really nice to have rims that arn't yellow from the clear coat fade

An easy way to clean your wheels. The old paint stripper method for removing clear coat. Not only does it remove clear coat but it removes the dirt as well.

It leaves them very clean when you are done. Also the outside lip has a nice little polish to it underneath.

Has anyone tried to re-clear their rims after stripping?

Well got my wheels mounted and put on today..when I went to get my tools to pull off the cap to make it easier on the guy doing the work- I had a sudden coronary. As I reached into my drivers side quarter panel access panel I reached down and grabbed the bag and I thought I was bobbing for apples.Yes I have water intrusion somewhere I thought as I cursed a storm. I quickly removed the rubber drain plug and let it drain. Later in the day I noticed that the water hasn't been sitting long so I suspect the a violent downpour we had the otehr day was the culprit.i cleaned it up and undercaoted the whole area just in case any more water appears.Ahhhhh :crazyeye:

After stripping under the faq section on refinishing wheels I clearcoated them. The first set I did not clearcoat and the break dust and salt from the winter destroyed them. So I refinished 12 wheels and they look brand ne. The clearcoat is needed when you strip and paint them. You have to clear them in low humidity and nice sun to bake it on the wheel. I could sell a set of 4 or more if interested, email me. I am going to do another set in the next couple of weeks, when i get time

Kevin,
Do you have pix of your offered wheels?
Did/would you do a write-up of the refinish procedure used?

Met with Mike P this last weekend and saw the finished wheel. The pics do not do it justice. The finish is so sharp, as if they had just been machined. I have some refinished wheels and they are not even close to these wheels. You get what you pay for.
