82 Supra Rescued (sort of) - Future 24hrs of LemOns Car
Hi All,
My son found an 82 Supra in rough shape and picked it up for $350. The motor barely ran and needs head gasket at minimum. The interior was destroyed, filled with garbage and bug infested but overall the body is in good shape and solid with no rust. I think the primer grey paint helped the skin
We hauled the car home on Labor day.
The plan for the car is to set it up and run it in the 24hoursofLemons.com series. ($500 junker endurance road racing) He put a team of high school kids together for this project and they have already stripped the car. Next is addressing the powerplant.
I am very familiar with push rods V8 (LT1s specifically) so this will be a new adventure into the DOHC Import world for both of us. I received a ton of help (2 tons to be exact
from the ImpalaSS forum members when I was working on my car and wanted to find a good forum where people share their knowledge to help my son get his car ready. The car is located in NE Metro Atlanta area.
I'm a chevy guy but look forward to helping him on this project and learning about a the 5MGE
Then when the Supra is ready next spring I can toast him in our 9C1 Cop car Lemons racecar!
I'm sure we'll have lots of questions as we dig into this car. Your help and guidance will be greatly appreciated. We have a manual on order and plan to start pulling the head in the next week.
Now the fun begins!!Mark S.

well mark you came to the right place. there is a priceless wealth of knowledge on this forum and if you have a question either it has been answred already or the guru's will know it. search before you ask and everyone will be more apt to help you out.
good luck with the project and post pics of your progress. the 5MGE will serve you well. if you are looking for more power then look into doing one of the many swaps available, with the most popular being a 7MGTE out of a MKIII turbo.

You won't be running that car obviously, but will you be at CMP this weekend for the race?
